PORTLAND, Ore. — A new micro-village to help house people experiencing homelessness is expected to open in Northeast Portland in March.

We Shine PDX said the village is hoping to serve about 10 to 12 people with an 8-foot-by-8-foot pod, showers, restrooms, and other amenities, like a community garden.

Janet McManus, the executive director of We Shine PDX, says the village is in an ideal location.

“It’s on a transportation arterial, it’s in the heart of the Russell neighborhood, it’s close to services, retail and health care facilities. To us, it meets the criteria to be a wonderful site,” said McManus.

We Shine PDX is looking to open two more micro-villages this year.
