Mission
WeShine designs, builds, and operates neighborhood-based micro villages that provide safe, transitional shelter with wrap-around services for Portland’s underserved, unsheltered adults as they prepare to become successful tenants in permanent, affordable housing.
WeShine stands for Welcoming, Empowering, Safe Habitation Initiative with Neighborhood Engagement.
Our vision is to create a network of micro villages based on this model, and provide vulnerable adults with a path to permanent housing.

Our model is rooted in the value of community, which restores self-esteem and heals the trauma that results from life on the streets. Guests experience peer support and are connected with services. This supportive service model leads to success that is nearly impossible when living outside.

May is #mentalhealthawarenessmonth and it’s important for us at WeShine to shed some light on the connections between homelessness and mental health. Being unhoused causes trauma and trauma IS mental health. Also many mental illnesses make keeping a job, showing up in society and being in relationships very difficult. We need better funding and support for mental illness and mental health!

This was Parkrose Pod 8! Pod 8 was our very first WeShine Pod 😭 our prototype and the first to be placed in the village. It was the first to be demolished today. Pod 8 sheltered individuals experiencing homelessness and was the first safe space a few of our participants had experienced in a long time. Change is hard and we have a lot of work to do to prep the site for the new pods! It’s gonna be beautiful!

It’s the end of an era at WeShine AND time for new beginnings! We are remodeling our baby, our first village, Parkrose Community Village! Today, with assistance from the amazing volunteers from @recycled.living we began removing doors, windows, pavement stones and other materials from our original pods. @recycled.living will salvage as much as they can glean before more demolition! New pods from @soundfoundationsnw will arrive in mid May!
