Hunter’s Story
It’s not every day you come across stories that exemplify the incredible resilience and strength of the human spirit. At WeShine’s Parkrose Community Village, we witness these transformative journeys every day. Today, I’m delighted to introduce you to Hunter – a story of redemption, resilience, and rebuilding.
Just nine months ago, Hunter arrived at our doorstep with her faithful companion, Charlie the dog. Like many of our villagers, he bore the scars of past challenges – a once flourishing career overshadowed by the darkness of addiction and the struggles of a toxic relationship. But when he joined our community, he was not the person he had once been. Hunter was in recovery, determined, and had a fierce desire to carve a new path for himself.
Hunter’s strengths were immediately apparent. Blending emotional intelligence with a knack for hands-on work, he quickly became our part-time Village Support Specialist. From taking on maintenance tasks to proposing and building a dog run for village pets like Charlie, his commitment to improving our community has been awe-inspiring.
But his contributions go beyond the boundaries of our village. Recently, Hunter showcased his courage and quick thinking when an unhoused individual set a dangerous fire in a neighboring parking lot. Without hesitation, he stepped in to douse the flames and worked diligently with local authorities to ensure safety was restored.
Today, in addition to his indispensable role at WeShine, Hunter juggles another part-time position with a fellow non-profit. With eyes set on the future, he’s laying the groundwork to purchase a car, become a Certified Recovery Mentor, and transition into permanent housing. Stories like Hunter’s are a testament to what can be achieved when given the right support and community. It is a reminder that behind every face there lies a tale of strength waiting to be unearthed.
